After many years of painting landscapes in oil, I began to explore abstraction and I experimented with acrylic paint, acrylic ink, mixed media and watercolor.
This inquiry into new materials and forms led me to explore interconnected themes with each new series: the sea, dreams, energy, the cycle of life and death. Referencing Richard Diebenkorn, I sought to deconstruct my landscapes and further investigate the unknown.
During the winter of Covid lockdown, I developed a series of small watercolor paintings based on the circle of life. These geometric paintings evolved from emotions over the loss of my mother and the birth of my grandson. the bold colorations became a kind of therapy during the winter months, and the orbiting shapes portray a time when many of us circled closely around those we love.
Where did my paintings start?
